ASD-STE100 Writing Principles

ASD-STE100 is mandated by several commercial and military specifications (MIL-SPEC) that control the style and content of maintenance documentation. Military defence standards (MIL-SPEC / MIL-STD) such as MIL-STD-3048, as well as technical documentation standards like S1000D and ATA iSpec 2200 recommend the use of ASD-STE100. In ASD-STE100, technical authors are encouraged to keep sentences brief and paragraphs short, while ensuring the completeness of information.

Some key writing rules are:

The Power of One

Use one word for one function, procedure or object.
Use one subject per sentence.
Write only one instruction per sentence.

Be Clear and Compliant

Keep to the approved meaning of a word in the Dictionary. Do not use the word with any other meaning.

Short is Sleek

Write procedural sentences of no more than 20 words.

If chains and/or cables are being installed, permit actuator screw to rotate freely as chains and cables are connected, set cable tension with turnbuckle, and safety the turnbuckle.c. Rotate trim control wheel full forward (nose down), making sure pointer does not restrict trim wheel movement. If necessary to re-position pointer where it will not restrict trim wheel movement, proceed as follows:(1) Remove control pedestal cover. Refer to paragraph 11-5.

(2) Loosen nut at trim wheel pivot shaft.

(3) Loosen screws securing chain guard (see figure 9-4) far enough that trim wheel can be removed.

How to adjust the elevator trim control systema. Loosen the travel stop block on the trim tab cables.b. Disconnect the actuator screw that connects the link to the trim tab.c. While you install chains or cables, let the actuator screw turn freely. Adjust the turnbuckle to set the correct cable tension. Safety the turnbuckle.

e. Turn the trim control wheel fully forward (nose down). If you must move the pointer to let the trim wheel move freely:

Aircraft fuel systemThis Chapter describes the DA 40 NG airplane fuel system. It does not include the fuel system for the engine. For more data on the engine fuel system refer to the AE Operation Manual, latest revision. The DA 40 NG has a fuel tank in each wing. Two different tank versions are provided. The total usable fuel capacity of the fuel system is 28 US gal (106 liter) in case of the standard tank and 39 US gal (148 liter) in case of the long range tank. One engine-mounted pump and one electrically driven fuel pump (a second parallel electric fuel pump is installed) supply fuel to the engine. A fuel filter provides protection to sensitive components. An electric transfer pump moves fuel from the right wing fuel tank (aux) to the left wing fuel tank (main) as necessary. Aircraft fuel systemThis chapter tells about the aircraft fuel system.
